Strauss Daly Incorporated has established itself as a leading firm of attorneys in Durban. The firm originally opened its doors for consultation on the 1st of  March, 1984.

Since inception we have grown at a vigorous pace and today are pleased to have an authentic national footprint with offices in Umhlanga, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Bloemfontein.   We are fully BEE compliant and, indeed, are enthusiastically committed to empowering all South Africans.

In 2001 the firm embarked on a strategic business and marketing drive, with the avowed intention of becoming a national law firm. In July 2001, Strauss Daly officially opened in Johannesburg followed by the establishment of a branch in Cape Town in 2005 – thus fulfilling the original vision.

AA Balsillie & Co was established in 1906.  During the 1950’s the firm merged with Watermeyer and Bosman and became known as Balsillie, Watermeyer & Bosman, and practiced from the Cape Town city centre.  In the 1970’s, the name was changed to Balsillie, Watermeyer & Cawood when John Cawood established our Cape Town Southern suburbs office.  In 1982 we expanded our practice further and opened our office in Cape Town’s Northern suburbs.

On 1 March 1997, the firm incorporated and the name was changed to Balsillies Incorporated, which was the name by which the niche practice had become known.  

During the past 100 years Balsillies has established itself in specialized fields of the law and has become one of the prominent legal firms in South Africa.  

THE MERGER: BALSILLIES STRAUSS DALY INCORPORATED

Having worked together on various projects in the past and with a unique synergy and combined national footprint, the merger of the two firms was inevitable.  The nature and level of the work being undertaken by the two firms demands national representation.  On 1 March 2006 Balsillies became part of the Strauss Daly group to become one national law firm with its clients being served in all the major business centres in South Africa from offices in Durban, Sandton, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, and Newlands.
